With over 3,700 properties worldwide, Marriott International is one of the world’s leading hoteliers. The firm has approximately 176,000 employees and over 6,900 locations. When the IT team was tasked with an IAM modernization project to facilitate the corporation’s digital transformation, they had a complex challenge on their hands. Given the corporation’s structure with many separate corporate brands, its identity infrastructure was a complex collection of identity data sources—different formats, different protocols, different locations. On top of that, its workforce was increasingly mobile, adding new devices and services into the mix. Because most large corporations and organizations have identity in many diverse data stores, any modernization project must start with a consolidation and integration of the identity and directory infrastructure as a foundation for a sustainable solution. This session will discuss how Marriott used identity integration to simplify their identity infrastructure, and pave the way to IAM modernization. The corporation is now much better able to deal with change, whether in the form of a new merger or acquisition, or the increasing prevalence of cloud applications.
