Why Investors Are Interested in Personal Privacy

Wednesday, June 23
2:05pm - 2:30pm MDT

The rise of social media and big data led to a mantra in the investment community that "Data is the new oil". But in recent years a whole new class of startups have arisen to protect and control personal data. This is driven by regulation like GDPR and CCPA but also new forms of enabling technologies like encryption, blockchain, biometrics, and hardware with tools like secure enclaves. Looking forward to the next ten years investors are looking for how identity can be monetized less by centralized giants like Facebook and more to the individual user while protecting privacy.
