Reality, as they say, is a social construct. Within the foundation of that construct lie premises that define the problems we need to solve, while also imposing limitations on how we can go about doing so. In identity management, the very best minds of our industry have been working for years on creating technology and standards to deliver online experiences that are easy-to-use, safe, reliable, and inclusive. Yet, on most days, that goal feels further and further away. The reality we’re building for is challenging, and perhaps what is needed is a way to reframe the problems we’re creating solutions for. Is there creative opportunity in the “misuse” of our identity tools and technology? By challenging the implicit biases and preconceived notions built into our processes, can we unlock answers we have missed before? In this talk, we’ll take a look at some of the myths and monsters holding innovation in identity back, and recent attempts at challenging best practices and established solutions. By presenting a conceptual framework and toolkit to challenge reality, the presenter hopes to explore new ways our community can deliver on the promise of the identity engine.
