Identity practitioners, particularly those working deep within the identity ecosystems to define standards and protocols for identity, authentication, and authorizations - are by their very definition, humanists. We operate in a world informed by science and observation, developing mechanisms to improve the safety, security, privacy, and individuality of humans. This does not challenge or supersede one's religious beliefs, rather, this strain of identity humanism influences how we think, how we operate, and how we define the future of identity. Yet we have a blindspot: death is the forgotten state transition in identity lifecycle management. The identity industry has failed to deliver frameworks, tools, and guidance to enable consent-driven mechanisms for individuals to determine how to handle their credentials, data, and services after their disablement (temporary or permanent) or death. Join us as we share stories and issue a call to action for the identity community to make the internet a better place by solving this universal issue that impacts each and every human and their loved ones.
