Director of Enterprise Identity & Access Management
AmFam Group
Session Abstract: American Family Group, also called AmFam, is a nearly 100-year-old Fortune 500 mutual company in the insurance, investment, and retirement-planning industry that has been acquiring businesses since 2008. When the CEO directed the consortium of previously-independent companies to start operating as a single organization, to be “better together,” it necessitated a massive re-architecting of their application and identity infrastructure–which contained “every tool, from every vendor, multiple times over.” Not only that, but AmFam’s workforce user experience was so disjointed that its impact on productivity made a “single identity” project the #1 business initiative for the entire organization.
This session will explore the AmFam identity team’s approach to creating a single identity for each person that could unlock all necessary job requirements across the enterprise. By using an identity warehouse approach, they were able to make identity available as an enterprise capability for all lines of business, ultimately improving user experience, simplifying the environment, and streamlining application development. Reggie Owens, Director of Enterprise IAM, is leading the effort to transform, centralize, and modernize AmFam’s IAM system, and will share how his team is leveraging an identity data platform to get the job done– ahead of schedule.
