Brian Tengel provides consumer privacy and data security guidance for clients across many industries. Brian advises on compliance with federal, state, and international laws and regulations, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), state biometric privacy laws such as the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA), and state data breach notification laws. In addition, Brian has significant experience counseling clients on advertising and marketing matters and consumer protection issues more generally.
As part of his practice, Brian has also represented clients in investigations before congressional committees, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and state attorneys general.
Following law school, Brian clerked for Chief Judge Roger L. Gregory of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and for Associate Judge Corinne Beckwith of the D.C. Court of Appeals
