The Metaverse and virtual worlds in general are visionary topics, which already exist for a while. However, due to new hardware capabilities, just recently business models have become possible, that require identity management, security, and standardization. Switching from one virtual world (or application) to another has to be a seamless experience for the users. Credentials, profiles, identities need to be transferred, permissions need to be granted, and strong authentication need to be introduced to build the foundation for reliable enterprise use cases. The users' digital twins will interact with virtual and real business cases and the real and virtual identity has to be modeled and secured. Particularly the restrictions and possibilities of recent devices, like, e.g. the Meta Quest 3 or Apple Vision Pro, need to be considered. In this session, an overview of the demands of Metaverse and virtual applications in terms of identity management is given, the current state of the art is summarized, and an outlook to our current standardization efforts, is given.
