Non-human identities (NHIs, aka machine / workload identities) are growing rapidly and expanding the attack surface, creating significant management challenges and cybersecurity risk. Enterprise Strategy Group recently completed research around NHIs that illuminates the state of play. The average organization estimates that the number of NHIs they manage is at least 20X the number of human identities, and over half expect this number to increase by more than 20% in the next year. Organizations recognize that many of these NHIs are insufficiently secured, with nearly half of organizations having experienced a breach of non-human identities and many suffering multiple incidents. And these attacks regularly get board-level attention.
Where is the NHI growth coming from? How are enterprises gaining visibility and lifecycle control over NHIs? What are the business agility and compliance challenges? What are the enterprise priorities as they work to secure both human and non-human identities? This session shares the ESG research results while also highlighting strategies for identity security teams to successfully manage and secure NHIs.
