Description: In May 2022, President Joe Biden signed a national security memorandum outlining his administration’s plan to address cyber risks posed by quantum computers. There is a consensus that in the not-too-distant future, quantum computers with a sufficient sophistication level will break much of the cryptography that currently secures our digital data and transactions. What is still being debated is when that will happen. To ensure the security and integrity of cryptographic systems in the quantum age, this memorandum calls for a coordinated effort to accelerate the development and deployment of post-quantum cryptographic systems. The adoption of post-quantum cryptographic systems is crucial for the protection of sensitive information within identity management and trusted services. In this presentation, we will discuss the potential quantum computing threats to identity management solutions as the industry moves ahead, including implementing quantum-safe identity credentials and protocols. We will also discuss the core areas of national critical priorities for post-quantum-computing migration and what steps identity solution providers, implementers, and users can take to be prepared for the arrival of quantum computing.
