As a Principal Security Engineer in Identity and Access Management at Amazon, Mike plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the security and privacy of over one billion consumer accounts. Leveraging his deep expertise, he provides strategic guidance for the company's customer identity and authentication initiatives, ensuring the strongest possible protection for Amazon's customers.
Prior to Amazon, Mike served as the Executive Director of USAA's Member Identity and Authentication program, where he led a team of experts in developing world-class authentication solutions. Under his leadership, USAA members were able to access their accounts with the maximum degree of security and usability.
With over 20 years of experience in cybersecurity and fraud mitigation, Mike has a proven track record of driving enterprise-level strategic efforts to mitigate risk and improve customer experience. He has held various leadership roles in areas such as identity and authentication, information security risk management, application security, and cyber threat mitigation. Passionate about helping others protect themselves from evolving threats, Mike is dedicated to staying at the forefront of the increasingly hostile threat landscape.
Mike's educational background includes a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science with an emphasis in Networking and Data Communications from Utah Valley University, as well as a Master's degree in Information Technology with a focus on cybersecurity from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He is also a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and a AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner.
