We are on the cusp of wide scale implementation of digital identities. Mobile driver licenses, verifiable credentials, and digital wallets are going to enable individuals to assert trusted, verifiable digital identities online. Projects in North America and the European Union are starting to bring these credentials from the lab into the hands of individuals.
But an underlying aspect of these credentials that hasn’t been fully addressed is the underlying trust fabric necessary to validate these identities. Asserting the identity and associated attributes is one thing but making sure that it’s valid requires a trust fabric or validation service.
This session will explore the standards these credentials are based and the possible architectures that can provide they trust needed for these digital credentials, including examples already in use today and others that may still emerge.
