Many identity teams are composed of brilliant engineers who can implement SAML, LDAP, or WebAuthn in their sleep, but they often function without a dedicated Product Manager to navigate the "why" behind the "what". This lack of product leadership can lead to roadmaps driven solely by technical debt or protocol updates rather than user needs and strategic innovation. This talk provides a practical toolkit for engineering-led teams to adopt a product mindset. Drawing from experience in high-stakes environments, we will explore how to transition from "maintaining authentication" to "leading a security product". We’ll discuss how to balance the "unsexy" work—like managing security vulnerabilities and enterprise compliance—with next-generation features like passwordless authentication and non-human identity.
