Andrew Regenscheid is the Manager of the Cryptographic Technology Group in the Computer Security Division at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Over his 20-year career at NIST, he has advanced the application of cryptographic algorithms and tools to strengthen the security of computer platforms, communication protocols, and authentication systems. He currently leads NIST’s cryptographic standards and guidelines program, including initiatives in post-quantum cryptography, lightweight cryptography, and privacy-enhancing cryptographic techniques. He also oversees NIST’s cryptographic algorithm and module testing and validation programs, which provide independent assurance and bolster trust in cryptographic technologies deployed in commercial IT products and services. As the technical lead for Personal Identity Verification (PIV) standards, Andrew directs the development of identity management standards and technical guidance for federal employees and contractors, and contributes to NIST’s broader digital identity framework as a coauthor of NIST Special Publication 800-63.
