Giving Back: How to Contribute Your IAM Knowledge to the World

Speaker: Heather Flanagan, Principal and IDPro BoK Editor, Spherical Cow Consulting
Date: Thursday, June 23, 2022
Location: Denver, CO

Description: There is a saying that if a thing isn’t written down, it never really happened. Identity practitioners rely on the fact that others have taken that step and written down their ideas as technical specifications, best practice standards, how-to documentation, and more. This session will review how different organizations, such as IDPro, Kantara, the IETF, and ISO, develop and publish the IAM documents that we know and love. We will demystify the contribution and publication processes and explain the differences between community-based and treaty-based standards organizations. We will touch on if, when, and how consensus-building happens, and perhaps most importantly, how you as an identity practitioner can be a part of it all, up to and including making the case within your own organization as to why it’s essential for you to do so.
